At Whitehall Nursery and Infant Academy we aim to be an inclusive school that welcome admissions from children of all faiths, backgrounds and beliefs into our community.  At our school we follow the general policy and criteria of Walsall Local Authority. Below is their criteria, in order of priority, for admitting pupils to school.

Reception Admissions 

The number of Reception places available each year (Published Admission Number, PAN) is 90.

If more than 90 children apply, places will be given using the rules below, in order:    

1. Children in Care: Children who are looked after by the local authority (for example, foster care).

2. Brothers and Sisters Already at School: Children who have a brother or sister at Whitehall Nursery and Infant Academy when you apply, and who will still be at the school when your child starts.

What counts as a brother or sister (sibling):   

• A brother or sister with the same parents
• A half‑brother or half‑sister (share one parent)
• A step‑brother or step‑sister (related by marriage)
• Another child who lives permanently at the same home (for example, through adoption, guardianship, or residency order)

 3. Medical or social reasons

Children who must go to Whitehall Nursery and Infant Academy for medical or social reasons. This must be explained in writing by a doctor or social     worker.

4. Children in Whitehall Nursery

Children who already attend Whitehall Nursery and whose parents apply correctly and on time.

5. Distance from school

Children who live closest to the school will be given priority. Distance is measured in a straight line from your home to the school.

Twins and multiple births

If twins or children from the same family group apply, the school will try to place them in different classes (not the same class), if possible.

Children with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP)

Children with an EHCP that names Whitehall Nursery and Infant Academy will be given a place before other children, if the school can meet their need

Moving to a Different School

Mid-year admissions are arranged through Walsall Council.
WNIA, working in collaboration with Walsall Council, will endeavour to provide a school place as soon as possible.

Appeal an Admission Decision

You can appeal to Walsall Council at the beginning of Reception, or mid-year if you’ve applied to move schools at a non-standard point.

September admissions to Reception

These are allocated by Walsall Council. and not by our school. Applications are completed online, please contact their Admissions Department for further details.

Mid-year admissions to Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 during the school year

These are allocated by Walsall Council.  Once we are notified by Walsall Council that you have applied for a place we will invite you to come and look around the school and completed the relevant documentation. Once your child has a uniform a start date can be arranged.

Moving up from year 2 – Infants to Year 3 – Juniors

Children who are already in WNIA will not automatically transfer to Whitehall Junior School. An application should be made via Walsall Councils website, listing up to three preferences in order of requirement.

Admission to Nursery

Nursery places are allocated by us. Please come to the school office to register your name on the waiting list as soon as possible, at least a year before they will be due to start, otherwise it is unlikely you will secure a place.  Parents of those children placed on the schools waiting list will receive a letter in April officially offering them a place. They will also receive an invite to our Nursery open day and a special Play and Stay session during July.

Mid-year admission to Nursery

If a place is available, our school can allocate that to a child.  As soon as all relevant documentation is completed and a uniform has been bought a date that best suits the needs of your child, and the children already in Nursery, will be arranged.
